Understanding Your IPPT Scores
The Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) scoring system is designed to evaluate your overall physical fitness and assign an award level based on your performance across three stations: Push-ups, Sit-ups, and the 2.4km Run. Each station contributes a maximum of 25 points, totaling a maximum possible score of 100 points.
How Points Are Awarded
Points for each station are awarded based on a sliding scale, which varies by age group. Generally, higher repetitions for push-ups and sit-ups, and faster times for the 2.4km run, will earn you more points. It's crucial to know the specific scoring tables for your age group to understand your target performance.
General Scoring Breakdown:
- Push-ups: Max 25 points
- Sit-ups: Max 25 points
- 2.4km Run: Max 50 points
The 2.4km run carries the highest weight in the overall score, reflecting its importance in cardiovascular fitness.
IPPT Award Levels
Your total score from all three stations determines your IPPT award level. These levels come with different recognition and incentives.
| Award Level | Total Points Required | Description | Incentive (NSmen) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gold | 85 - 100 points | Achieved an excellent standard across all stations. Demonstrates superior physical fitness. | $500 |
| Silver | 75 - 84 points | Achieved a very good standard. Demonstrates strong physical fitness. | $500 |
| Pass with Incentive | 61 - 74 points | Met the required standards with a good performance. Demonstrates satisfactory physical fitness. | $200 |
| Pass | 51 - 60 points | Met the minimum required standards. Demonstrates basic physical fitness. | - |
| Fail | Below 51 points | Did not meet the minimum required standards. Remedial training (RT) is required. | - |
What Happens If You Fail?
If you score below 51 points, you will be required to undergo Remedial Training (RT) to improve your fitness and retake the IPPT. It's important to take RT seriously and use it as an opportunity to enhance your physical capabilities.
Age Group Variations
The IPPT scoring standards are adjusted based on age groups to account for natural physiological changes over time. This ensures fairness and maintains achievable benchmarks for servicemen of all ages. Always refer to the official standards for your specific age group.
